Consultation Part 1 - Concept Design Feedback

Please complete this survey to provide your feedback on features that you would like to see within the park design and any other comments regarding the project.  Consultation Part 1 closes September 23, 2025.

Park Concept Design Feedback

Your responses to the following questions will help the project team develop the park design and ensure this park meets needs of the neighbourhoods.

This is part one, of a two-part public consultation process.  Once staff review all the responses, they will develop a 'preferred concept' which will then go through the second round (part two) of public consultation (late summer/fall), before the design is finalized.

Existing Conditions

The area where the park is located is closed to the public and requires remediation due to past uses and contamination before it can be open for public access.  Photos of the site are provided to show the existing conditions and get a sense of the potential of the site.

Concept A: Natural Design

This concept design takes a naturalized approach to park design.  Natural features of escarpment, cedar trees clinging to the rock and forested areas are all prominent within the Limehouse area and also present within this park location.  The design includes a limestone screenings path through the park, generous tree planting and naturalization areas, as well as a large open lawn area.  The design includes playground features with rope climbers, large boulders, wood elements and a hill slide.  Fitness equipment and many trees for shade are proposed for along the pathways to blend in and celebrate the existing escarpment features and mature trees on the site.

Other features include a Bruce Trail style ladder to access the escarpment feature.  Lime kiln information and interpretation is also proposed.  The concept is shown below and high resolution images of the concept and precedent images can be accessed here.

Concept B: Modern Design

This concept design takes a modern approach to park design. It includes concrete pathways and a centralized activity area with playground and fitness equipment, basketball half court with painted games as well as a metal picnic shelter. There is a medium sized grass area and maintained grass across the road frontage of the park. A focal area for public art is provided with seating that could also be functional art. The asphalt parking lot in this concept has been doubled in size.  The escarpment feature on the site has not been formally developed with trails or ladder access.  A portable toilet and bicycle repair station are included within the concept. The concept can be seen below and high resolution images of the concept and precedent images can also be found here.

There are approximately 18 giant limestone boulders, that were salvaged from the 22 Side Road re-construction project.  What do you think they should be used for?
