FAQs
Why is the Town looking into changing postal codes for some residents and businesses?
The issue was raised by Council members in response to comments received from residents who have Milton postal codes but pay taxes to Halton Hills. The approximate area in question served by Milton postal codes is 15 Side Road south and east to Sixth Line including the Premier Gateway area. These areas are currently served by three different postal codes.
Will the Town get extra tax revenue from this change?
No. The (potentially impacted) property owners, businesses and residents already pay their taxes to the Town of Halton Hills despite having addresses for another municipality.
How will the decision be made?
Staff will bring forward a report detailing the results of the survey and a recommendation for Town Council’s consideration. The recommendation will be based on a previously approved report to Town Council that suggested a response threshold of 60% or more be required in order to implement changes to Halton Hills addresses.
If the decision is made to change postal codes, can I opt out of this and keep my current postal code?
No. Canada Post will not permit individual addresses within a postal code area to be different.
If the decision is made to change the postal codes, what is the process?
If the decision is made to change postal codes, staff will report to back to Council on next steps including communications which would include direct notification to those impacted by the decision.
If the decision is made to change the postal codes, what do I have to do?
If the decision is made to change postal codes, residents can expect to receive additional information from the Town.
