Light Up The Hills Volunteering

Volunteering is fun and rewarding. Light up The Hills was my fall focus for 2020. I have spent the last 12 years supporting and promoting the publicity of the magical delights created for this festive season celebration in Halton Hills from December 1st to January 3rd each year.

The Covid 19 challenge was prominent however my favourite tasks carried on. Moira Robinson and myself took the opportunity to create a small Light Up The Hills venue for the First Lions Club Drive through Santa Claus Parade.

Two other Light Up The Hills venues filled my time. The library event window was filled with Santas, trees and lights.

Next was Young’s Pharmacy window. Again strings of Lights, Christmas figures and a colourful back drop were the window high lights. Hopefully these creative activities complimented and promoted the spirit of Light Up The Hills and helped to create some festive sparkle for others to enjoy. The above were the easier jobs.

Volunteers have many jobs to make Light Up The Hills work. There is a tremendous amount of Time and WORK spent raising funds, planning the park set-up, installing the lights, checking the lights, taking down and storing the lights. Then there are the Remembrance Trees and a yearly draw. Lots of hard working, committed volunteers are needed to make Light Up The Hills happen and with the work of many dedicated Volunteers the lights will continue glow In Georgetown, Acton and Glen Williams.

Personally, volunteering has offered me the opportunity to work with other volunteers, make a small difference and do things I would never have had the opportunity to do.
