FAQs
What is a Mobility Master Plan (MMP)?
A Mobility Master Plan (MMP) is a strategic framework that outlines the vision and strategies for improving transportation and mobility within a community. It addresses various modes of transportation, including walking, cycling, public transit, goods movement and vehicular traffic.
The plan provides connections to the Official Plan Review, other master plans and all transportation-related studies, projects and initiatives that combine to support the Town's future growth to 2051.
What is mobility?
Mobility refers to the ability to move freely and easily within a community. It encompasses various modes of transportation, including walking, cycling, driving, and using public transit. Effective mobility ensures that residents have options to access jobs, services, and recreational opportunities conveniently and safely.
Why is an MMP needed?
In the next 15-25 years, Halton Hills is expected to experience significant growth, with a projected population of 132,000 people and 65,000 jobs by 2051. Given this forecasted growth, it is crucial to strategically plan for this expansion while enhancing the Town's transportation network.
The MMP is essential for creating a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation system. It helps identify current mobility challenges, plans for future growth, and promotes alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use, ultimately improving the overall quality of life for residents.
How does this affect me?
The MMP impacts residents by improving accessibility and mobility options. It seeks to create a more connected community with better public transit, safer walking and biking routes, and infrastructure improvements to reduce traffic congestion, making it easier for residents to move around.
How often is the MMP updated?
A MMP (or formerly known as a TMP) is typically conducted every five years to ensure that transportation strategies align with current needs and future growth. The Town's last TMP was completed in 2011, and an update is now necessary to address evolving transportation demands and infrastructure requirements.
Who is involved in the MMP process?
The MMP process involves collaboration among local government, transportation planners, community organizations, and residents. Public engagement is key, allowing community members to share their insights and priorities regarding transportation needs.
Public engagement updates will be communicated in advance to keep the public informed about upcoming opportunities for participation.
How can residents provide input on the MMP?
Residents can contribute to the MMP process through public meetings, surveys, and feedback sessions. Engaging with the community is crucial to ensuring that the plan reflects the needs and desires of all residents.

Whats the difference between this and the Transit Implementation Plan and Official Plan Review?
The Town is also in the process of conducting the Transit Implementation Plan and the Official Plan Review.
The MMP is being developed alongside other important initiatives, such as the Town’s Official Plan Update and the Transit Implementation Plan. These projects are interconnected and will collectively shape Halton Hills' future development. While the Official Plan Update addresses land use and long-term growth strategies, and the Transit Implementation Plan focuses on addressing public transportation options, the MMP ensures that the transportation network is well-equipped to support both current and future mobility needs. By aligning these efforts, the Town can create a more cohesive, sustainable, and integrated infrastructure system that will benefit residents and businesses alike.
