About The Project
The Town is building a new plaza at the Georgetown Library & Cultural Centre. Located at 9 Church Street, in the heart of historic downtown Georgetown, this new public open space will serve as an important place to gather and celebrate the unique character, diversity and cultural heritage of Halton Hills.
Construction of the plaza is scheduled for fall 2020, with planting to be completed in spring 2021.
Public access and use of the Library & Cultural Centre will be maintained during construction.
Project Highlights
Approximately 300m2 of paved open plaza space.
The plaza will be universally accessible providing barrier-free access and use.
A variety of seating options will be available.
Large planting beds, showcasing low maintenance, drought tolerant perennials and shrubs.
Utility adjustments to remove obstructions and improve functionality of space.
Large specimen trees, providing a focal point and visual interest.
Opportunities for permanent and temporary art installations.
This plaza will be the first stage of transformation for this space.
Future phases of development are expected over the coming years, including, the incorporation of public art and additional climate adaptation initiatives.
