Thank you for your input and helping design the playground at Cedarvale Park!

With your input, Town staff have finalized the design and ordered the playground equipment. Construction will take place in October and completion by the end of the year.

The design focuses on inclusive and collaborative play, with unique and engaging play equipment, where users of all ages and abilities can access and enjoy the benefits of play.

For renderings of the final design click here and for a labelled plan of the final playstructure click here. These can also be found in the documents section of this page.

The final design includes:

Jungle net rope climber, rope basket saucer swing, double spring rider, supernova spinner, bee spring toy, leaf climber, sensory tunnel with musical and tactile components. 10ft swings with 3 belt, 2 tot and 1 accessible swing, rocking nest, large play structure with 3 slides, various climbers, roofs over decks for shade, play tables, hammock seat and other activity panels. Sand and water play area. Many of these features are a first for Halton Hills and will make Cedarvale a destination playground.

Playground equipment has been arranged to provide zones of use for younger children and also youth, good flow of use and allow for collaborative play and optimize the space available and project budget.

The playground area will also have lots of bench and picnic table seating and water fountain with bottle filling. The playground is beside the existing picnic shelter, mature trees and has roofs over the main structure for additional shade. New trees will also be planted around the playground to offer shade in the future and enhance the park setting and natural theme of the playground. Natural log and wood post features as well as armourstone will be included in the playground (not shown in renderings) to offer informal seating and enhance the natural feel of the space. New concrete pathways will connect the existing park pathways to the playground and picnic shelter as well as ramps into the playground areas. Safety surfacing of the playground will be engineered wood fibre and in the water and sand play zone, sand.

Through the second round of consultation in spring 2024 we heard the following themes:

  • love sand and water play area
  • concern that sand and water will be messy and kids get dirty
  • want higher swings
  • bee style spring toy preferred (over snail and forest bug design)
  • rocking nest preferred (over spinner bowl and spinner plate features)
  • zones for little children and activities for youth
  • lots of seating and shade needed (benches, picnic tables, gazebo, trees)
  • would like a zip line
  • circular path/track for bike riding and scooters
  • make activities accessible for all
  • year round washrooms

Through the first round of consultation in 2023, we heard the following themes:

  • emphasis on natural materials and feeling to compliment the natural setting
  • improved access to playground location
  • inclusive and broad range of play options desired
  • swings and climbers
  • water and sand play
  • rubber safety surfacing like Dominion Gardens playground
  • drinking fountain with bottle fill station

Based on the first round of consultation themes and vision for the playground, Town staff carried out a request for proposal process with play equipment companies to select equipment and an overall design to achieve those goals. Equipment selection was adjusted and fine tuned based on the second round of consultation and ordered.

What's next?

Construction will take place in fall 2024 with completion before the end of the year.
