Credit Valley Conservation (CVC), in collaboration with the Town of Halton Hills and Halton Region, is developing a Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP) in Acton. The goal of this project is to create a customized plan with practical actions to protect, enhance, and restore Black Creek, Bovis Creek, Fairy Lake, and the surrounding neighbourhoods, thereby supporting a healthy environment.
The Action Plan will be developed from spring 2025 to early 2026 through a collaboration among the following partners:
- Local residents and businesses
- Local community groups, partners, and NGOs (non-government organizations)
- Credit Valley Conservation (CVC)
- Town of Halton Hills
- Halton Region
Project Background
In 2020, CVC, in collaboration with the Town of Halton Hills, Halton Region, and other stakeholders, completed the Black Creek Subwatershed Study. The study examined the subwatershed's natural features and water resources, outlining goals and strategies for their long-term management. Based on a prioritization process conducted by CVC, the Town and Region staff, the development and implementation of a Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP) was selected to accelerate action in the subwatershed.
Funding from Halton Region will support the SNAP and three technical studies:
Bovis Creek Restoration: A study is underway to explore the restoration of a 1.8 km stretch of Bovis Creek, located just upstream of Fairy Lake. The study will examine opportunities to improve the creek’s natural flow, habitat, and water quality — creating a healthier environment for both wildlife and the community.
Cleaner Water for Fairy Lake: This study explores how wetland features at the inlets of Fairy Lake can help filter out phosphorus and improve water quality. It will also identify the requirements needed to advance to the detailed design stage.
Reducing Flood Risk in Acton: Updating outdated floodplain maps using the latest data and technology. This will help provide a clearer understanding of flood risks and protect homes and businesses in the area.
The SNAP and technical studies are part of the broader Fairy Lake Revival initiative, which aims to restore and protect Fairy Lake’s natural ecosystem. It supports ongoing efforts like:
- the Town’s Fairy Lake Water Quality Study
- Halton Region’s Total Phosphorus Offset Strategy for Acton Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Public health priorities for Fairy Lake
This survey, and other opportunities to get involved in action planning, builds on feedback previously gathered by the Town during the Fairy Lake Water Quality Study.
Purpose of the Survey
We're inviting all residents, whether you live within the proposed Acton SNAP boundary or just outside of it, to share your thoughts through our community survey. If you live in Halton Hills and consider Acton your community—whether you shop here, work here, or participate in local events—your opinion matters. Help shape the future of Acton by taking about 15 minutes to complete the survey. Your input will guide local environmental action planning and community improvements.
