The community of Halton Hills developed an Active Living Strategy to increase the physical activity levels of people who live, work and play in Halton Hills. This engagement forum was developed to solicit input, collaborate, share ideas and work together to make being active an easy choice every day.
Project updates are as follows:
Toys in Parks:
This successful pilot project was conducted in five parks. Public feedback indicated that residents were extremely pleased with this addition and hope to see this program expanded to include other parks.
Active Living Strategy (ALS):
The ALS was approved by Council and staff is rolling out the implementation.
Open Streets:
The majority of respondents indicated that their preferred activities are walking and cycling.
Thank you for your engagement.
Action Plan for 2017-2019:
Increase the quality and availability of new active opportunities by building capacity, developing partnerships and sharing best practices through the Active Easy Network.
Increase participation in active living by providing Open Streets opportunities that will allow individuals and families to engage in casual, no cost physical activity.
Remove barriers and encourage low income families to play by providing free Activity Kits.
Enhance engagement with families with children by providing active toys at local parks.
Enhance trail usage by providing activity features along trails.
Create an outreach strategy to engage the rural community in identifying barriers and potential solutions to inactivity.
Provide Physical Literacy training to the Network partners and volunteers.
Profile and celebrate residents being active through the “Caught Being Active” campaign delivered by volunteer Ambassadors.
Share successes with the community through local and social media.

You may have noticed some new outdoor toys in playgrounds across Halton Hills. Playgrounds provide an opportunity for free play which allows children to explore according to their natural tendencies, to learn from one another and to interact with a wide range of age groups. The toys are intended to promote creativity, encourage cooperative play and make play times longer. TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

My two year old loves the trucks at the Greenore park. We are there 2-3 times a day (once now that he's back in daycare) to play with the grader and the bulldozer! Today we noticed that the plastic dump truck is broken and the broken plastic is really sharp. Is it ok if I toss it out? I think I'll hide it in the bushes until I hear back, so no one gets hurt.
