Bike Month is an opportunity for people to try riding a bike for the first time, learn new skills, or simply have fun and connect with new people. It’s taking the time to rekindle the youthful magic of exploring your neighbourhood by bike or share that joy with the next generation of bike riders. Bike Month is a celebration of cycling.

Bike Month returns this year with in-person events and a hopeful outlook that cycling can bring people together for some healthy, sustainable fun. A Bike Month event can be just about anything, as long as it involves bikes! In the past, people have hosted bike rides, festivals, film nights, workshops, seminars, and get-togethers. So, head over to BikeMonth.ca and share your event for everyone to enjoy!

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR BIKE MONTH?

Bike to Workday

Anyone who rides their bike to work on June 29th will get a voucher for a free complimentary breakfast special combo (Breakfast Sandwich, Muffin & Coffee) from Tina as well as a Super-Duper Prize Bike Safety Swag Deluxe Reward Goodie Bag (I hope this caught your attention to bike to work). Please let us know if you plan on participating through the Lets Talk Halton Hills platform via the Bike to Work Quick Poll tab. Please note that this poll will be open until June 23rd, and we will be taking no registrations after this day.

As we shift to a virtual side of work, we decided to have a virtual cycling engagement experience! Throughout the month of June, you can post a picture of yourself riding your bike during your morning exercise routine, lunch break, evening family bike ride or just a casual ride on the weekend through our Bike Month Story tool. To encourage your participation in this engagement, we will be giving away bike swag goodie bags to all who participate on the platform, these goodies will be made available for pick up at the lower level of Town Hall at the Building & Engineering department with Nova.

And yes, the ones who bike to work on June 29th, will be receiving a little bit more bike swag for the dedication!

Don’t forget that while you’re having fun riding, you’re also helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions! With your help, we want to save 80,000 km (2x around the planet!) worth of emissions. On https://www.bikemonth.ca/ you can pledge to ride, log your trips, and fight the climate crisis. Let’s ride around the world together! Visit www.bikemonth.ca

Bike Month Event Calendar

The Bike Month event calendar is where people can share community events taking place between May 30 and June 30. You’ll find online cycling workshops, rides, and other activities taking place throughout the month.

The positive impacts of riding a bike become even more apparent when you see how many others are riding with you. Check out our Bike Month Events Calendar for a range of community events across the GTHA planned for Ride A Bike Day and beyond. Visit: https://www.bikemonth.ca/events

    Bike Lane Challenge 2022

I have challenged myself to cycle on every bike lane in Halton Hills this summer. This photo was taken the first time out before riding on the Miller St. bike lane to a trail in Hungry Hollow.
