Am I going to pay more in rural Halton Hills for garbage collection than someone living in an urban area? Am I going to pay more than someone from Oakville/Milton/Burlington?
You will not necessarily pay more for garbage collection than someone living in the urban area. The rate that residents pay for garbage collection (or any waste services) is not determined by the area in which they live. As per all the services provided by Halton Region and the local municipality, the rate is determined as a percentage of property taxes.
What is a “bag tag”? How do I get bag tags if I need them?
Residents may place up to 3 garbage bags or cans at the curb every other week on their collection day. If you require more than 3 bags, residents can purchase garbage bag tags. The cost of the tags is 5 tags for $10. A maximum of 6 bags or cans can be placed out for collection (3 untagged, 3 tagged). To order garbage bag tags online, please visit halton.ca/waste.
How will a decision be made?
Halton Hills Council will review the survey results and pass a motion with a recommendation to Halton Region to approve or not approve the collection of garbage, bulk waste and metal items for rural households.
