Through public consultation, it was confirmed that the proposed design and components reflect what the community wants. The only change based on preference is replacing the sitting spinner with a stand-up version.
As part of the project, a section of the fence will be repaired, and additional fencing along the Edward St. frontage. Seating will be updated, and old non-functional light will be removed.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early September. The Town strives to carry out this construction as efficiently as possible and the work is estimated to take around 4 weeks to complete.
Thank you very much for the public consultation feedback.
Kinsmen Parkette is a small neighbourhood parkette (0.16 ha) located at 5 Byron Street in Georgetown, Ontario. Serving the surrounding residential area, the primary feature of the park is its playground. In 2021, minor upgrades were completed, including installing a new ramp, walkways leading to the playground, and planting additional trees.
This project will involve the removal and replacement of the existing playground structure, which has reached the end of its useful life. The existing playground perimeter will remain in place, but all current equipment will be removed and replaced with new features.
We invite you to review the proposed playground design and take the survey to provide your feedback on the features and equipment you'd like to see included in the new Kinsmen Parkette playground.
Surfacing Information
The current surfacing is Engineered Wood Fibre, which will remain the chosen material for the new playground. Engineered Wood Fibre is accessible, impact-absorbing, and compliant with all safety standards for playground surfacing. The replacement project does not include the installation of rubber or alternative surfacing materials due to budget limitations.
